MARC: Community Resources, Ltd. is a private, non-profit organization, providing services to adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We also provide services to their families and local communities.
--MARC was founded in 1955 by a small but dedicated group of parents and friends of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Their first efforts won them the right to have children with disabilities educated in public schools. With a major success like that, it's not surprising that they continued working together, improving the lives of people with disabilities by championing their rights to access a wider scope in everyday living.
--Much of what we do involves making personal choice possible. In this way, life is less contained, and the avenues to reach one's full potential are more realized.

We invite and welcome your involvement. MARC serves hundreds of people in Middlesex County. The towns we serve include Middletown, Cromwell, Portland, East Hampton, East Haddam, Haddam, Higganum, Chester, Deep River, Essex, Old Saybrook, Clinton, Westbrook, Durham and Centerbrook. We are a community based organization, and therefore depend on community support.

President's Welcome

A warm welcome to MARC: Community Resources' Web Site.  As you navigate our site you will quickly learn that we are not so much about programs and buildings, as we are about empowerment and choice.  From children participating in Saturday for Kids, to high school students experimenting with different career possibilities, to adults living; working and participating in their communities.  It is all about individual choice.  While we all need brick and mortar, a place to gather, a place to meet, a place to live—what we really need is a place, a place in the world where we are empowered to be all that we can be.  We all need a world that, regardless of ability or disability, will treat us with respect and support our individual choices.   That is our mission and that is what drives us---that is our passion at MARC:  Community Resources.

Meeting the unique and often changing needs of hundreds of individuals is not easy!  Such flexibility and effort requires the commitment and vision of many- families, staff, board members and volunteers—all the individuals that comprise the “MARC Family”.  We are touched daily by the generosity and support of the community, from firemen to bankers to foundations and friends that make what we do financially possible.

We are proud of the array of supports and services we provide. We are passionate about what we do and encourage you to learn more about us. We welcome your thoughts, phone calls and e-mails - and most of all - participation.
-

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Warner
President/CEO

Person Centered Planning

MARC has enthusiastically pursued implementing individualized services as represented by the process commonly referred to as Person-Centered Planning.
--This process has allowed MARC to create an environment that helps consumers have a better understanding and broader perceptions of the people who form the fabric of their lives.
--Additionally, this has helped consumers understand about dreaming, how to define a dream, and how MARC will coordinate the efforts of many to achieve outcomes that will result in dreams being realized.
--Furthermore, our Person-Centered Plans are supported by White Books that contain everything necessary to understand what is needed to meet an individual's goals/outcomes. The White Books are dynamic documents filled with graphics, exhibits, and photographs which make them unique and much more meaningful to consumers and their families than the more traditional method of reporting on what's happening in a person's life. Our ability to review every few weeks the outcomes developed through these plans is also a unique aspect of how we have developed this philosophy and the services tied to it.
--We are committed to continuing to develop and improve the supports that individuals need to advance them in their path to a better quality of life as they define what that means.
--The focus of all this is to help individuals achieve their outcomes providing supports and guidance in a person-centered way. Both the community at large and the individuals we support are enriched by the outcomes of the person-centered process. The gifts and contributions of all community members are enhanced when supports are developed in this manner.
