Get Involved

A compassionate society makes sure that there's a place for everyone. A place where individuals can grow, flourish and be respected for who they are, no matter what their capacities. A place where happiness can be achieved - where connections to other people result in feelings of security.
--
Who makes this possible? All of us, working together.
--
And that's what MARC is all about.
--MARC Community Resources was built by concerned people like you. Although we have grown well beyond the expectations of our founders, we are still very much a community initiative.

We invite you to join us in our efforts. There are many ways you can do this.

  • Become a volunteer. There's nothing like the satisfaction of being directly involved and seeing the results of your work first hand. Person-to-person. You can volunteer for a committee, volunteer for one of our recreation programs, or one of our many special events or fundraisers. (One such volunteer opportunity is MYARC. See below.)
  • You can support us by joining our family as a member. As a member of MARC, you receive certain benefits. You become an advocate for the programs and people that MARC represents. We'll also keep you informed of what's going on through regular publications.
  • If you own or run a business, contact us about becoming an employment partner. This is a wonderful way to make a positive difference in someone's life - offering people independence through participation in the workforce. Call 860- 342-0700 for more details.

If you don't have time to volunteer, you can still help out by donating to MARC. Our programs provide powerful tools for people with disabilities. We depend on community support to make them possible. Your donation might provide winter clothes for someone in need, supplement a grocery bill, or pay for lunch at a Senior Center. It might bring special joy on a birthday or around the holidays, delivering food and presents for someone who might otherwise be forgotten.
-- Larger donations help fund our programs. As a nonprofit, community-based organization, continued funding is always a dire concern. A lot of lives depend upon us everyday.

How can you donate?

  • Direct contributions. You can donate any time or look for our Annual Giving Appeal in the fall.
  • Sponsor or participate in fund raisers.
  • Legacy giving. Remembering MARC in your will.
  • Advocate to others on our behalf.

Call Jane Carroll, Development Director, for more information at 860-342-0700 x15. Send all donations to:

Thank you for your interest in supporting people with disabilities.

MYARC

Middlesex Youth ARC is a volunteer organization which began in 1970. Its purpose is dedicated to the philosophy that growth and personal development occur as a result of social interaction. This takes place between persons with disabilities and the students of Mercy and Xavier High Schools. It is an independent organization affiliated with MARC's recreation program. The program operates under the guidance of Brother J.R. Houlihan, Xavier teacher and longtime supporter of MARC.
--On Tuesday afternoons, adults come to participate in a dance program, an activity that requires one-to-one group volunteer involvement. On Thursday afternoons adult participants learn ceramics. The program also includes several seasonal parties. MYARC has recently become involved with the Saturday for Kids Program, a program sponsored by MARC for children between the ages of 6 and 12, held two to three Saturday mornings per month.
--The activities promote creativity and a sense of accomplishment for those who participate. The MYARC volunteers of Mercy and Xavier High Schools are a group of young people with a unique sense of responsibility and a dedication to community service.
