Family Support & Advocacy

MARC Community Resources provides numerous services to support the relatives of those whom we serve. We also advocate on behalf of the rights and needs of people with disabilities.

Family Support
We can provide a wealth of information to parents and families about what resources are available to them. We provide information about disabilities as well, and will perform a needs assessment and help to initiate services to get things started.
--We understand the problems that families face on a daily basis. We can get you involved with support groups for parents, siblings or the person in your life with disabilities. If necessary, we can supply in-home assistance as well.
--
There are no charges for these services.
--The School Transition program focuses on young people from 15 to 21 years of age. It assists in the development of meaningful work skills and academic performance that will prepare our participants for the labor market after graduation. Fees for this program are generally paid for by the school.

Family Services include:

  • Disability Information
  • Guidance on Services, Entitlements & Financial Assistance
  • Application Assistance to Services
  • PPT Support and Advocacy
  • Advocacy for Technical Assistance
  • Home Visits
  • Leisure Guidance
  • Family Intervention Program
  • School Transition

Self-Advocacy: MARC's Guardian Angels
Many of our programs focus on enabling people to get involved and do things for themselves, as much as possible. This includes advocating on their own behalf, for their own well-being.
--Members meet twice a month to discuss topics of interest, and find ways to improve their lives. Examples of such topics include voting rights, employment, housing, and personal relationships. The group has its own by-laws and officers are elected on a yearly basis.
--MARC's self-advocates are one of the Middletown
chapters of People First of Connecticut, a statewide self-advocacy group for people with disabilities. The Guardian Angels are an effective advocacy group for positive change.

For more information on any of these services, call Susan Marangellisantos at 860-342-0700, Ext. 14.

We would like to acknowledge the Middlesex United Way for their generous support of this program.
